Keeping our teeth their whitest is a lot harder than it sounds. With all the coffee, wine, smoking and other foods that have the ability to stain our teeth on a daily basis, even proper maintenance sometimes leaves them a little lackluster. Teeth whitening is an excellent way to restore the natural color of your teeth or even make them whiter than your natural color if you would like.  We  can help you achieve a brighter smile through one of two methods - tray bleaching  or  in- office “Zoom”  bleaching.

 Tray bleaching

Whitening Tray

For tray bleaching we take impressions of your teeth and make you custom fitted bleaching trays.  You place bleaching gel in the trays and wear them for several hours (or overnight) for a period of about 3 weeks.  With this method, you will get a gradual brightening of your teeth.

Zoom

Zoom whitening

You may have seen the Zoom whitening system used on ABC’s hit show, “Extreme  Makeover”.  It's safe , effective and fast, very fast. In just over an hour, your teeth will be dramatically whiter. Zoom Whitening is ideal for anyone looking for immediate results. The convenience of Zoom in comparison to days of wearing trays and gradual whitening makes it the choice for the busy individual.

The Zoom Teeth Whitening procedure is simple and painless. It begins  with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. We then apply the proprietary Zoom Whitening Gel, which is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become at least five shades whiter, sometimes more. A fluoride treatment completes the procedure.

We do recommend the construction of trays so you can do “touch-ups” to maintain your bright smile.

Generally, bleaching is successful  in over  90 percent of patients, though no one can really predict how much lighter your teeth will become. Consider tooth bleaching if your teeth are darkened from  age, coffee, tea, or  smoking.  Teeth in the yellow  or brown range respond best to bleaching.  Stains in the gray family (such as tetracycline) can be more stubborn, if not impossible, to bleach.    Bleaching can only provide a shift in color  from gray to a lighter shade of gray, for example.   If you have porcelain crowns or  bonded restorations in conspicuous areas of your mouth, these will not lighten from bleaching and may not match the shade of your newly whitened natural teeth.
